Kathmandu, February 13
The Election Commission has announced special arrangements for visually impaired voters, persons with physical disabilities, and those unable to mark their ballots independently in the upcoming election.
The Commission stated that pregnant women, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, the sick, individuals in mourning rituals, new mothers, and other voters, including gender and sexual minorities, will be allowed to vote on a priority basis without standing in line.
Voters who are visually impaired, physically disabled, or otherwise unable to mark their ballots on their own may request permission from the polling officer to take a member of their immediate household into the private voting area to assist them. The polling officer may grant such permission upon request.
If a visually impaired or physically disabled voter seeks assistance in marking the ballot, the polling officer is required to provide necessary support, according to the Commission.
The election for members of the House of Representatives will be held nationwide on Falgun 21. The Commission said polling centres and stations have already been finalised, and policies have been formulated regarding their management, including special voting arrangements for visually impaired and physically disabled voters.
