The inaugural edition of Congress Dabali, a new forum examining the future of the Nepali Congress (NC) from the perspective of non-Congress individuals, concluded on Friday, featuring journalist and author Basanta Basnet. The program was moderated by Bikal Rai.
Speaking at the event, Devraj Chalise, spokesperson for the Nepali Congress, highlighted the political shifts in Nepal following the Gen Z movement of September 23–24.
“The political landscape has changed drastically,” Chalise said. “For the Nepali Congress, these changes have been even more significant, with the election of new leadership through the special convention. In such a critical moment, it is important to hear from non-Congress individuals on how the party can improve in the days ahead.”
Basnet, reflecting on the party’s evolution, emphasised that the age of a political party is less important than its culture, values, and commitment.
“The Nepali Congress has shown that revolution can happen from within,” he said, praising the thousands of party cadres who contributed to the special convention. However, Basnet added that holding a convention alone is not enough.
“It is equally essential to review past mistakes and move forward with progressive thought and action,” he said.
