Kathmandu, January 25
The Supreme Court has issued a show-cause notice in the writ petition filed by Resham Lal Chaudhary, chairperson of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, Nepal, challenging the Election Commission’s decision to cancel his candidacy.
Chaudhary had demanded that the decision of the Chief Election Officer of Kailali Constituency No. 2, who annulled his candidacy, be revoked, claiming that the cancellation was illegal.
During the hearing on Sunday, a bench of the Supreme Court led by Justice Bal Krishna Dhakal issued the show-cause notice.
Chaudhary has also sought that his candidacy remain intact so that he can compete in the election.
After the preliminary hearing on Sunday, the Supreme Court issued the show-cause notice and has summoned the opposing party to discuss whether an interim order should be granted.
