Resham Chaudhary moves Supreme Court against candidacy rejection

Kathmandu, January 23

Ramesh Lal Chaudhary, chairperson of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, Nepal, has approached the Supreme Court against the Election Commission’s decision to reject his candidacy.

Chaudhary has sought the annulment of the decision taken by the election officer, stating that his nomination was unlawfully cancelled. He has demanded that the decision of the election officer of Kailali Constituency No. 2 be overturned.

He has also requested that his candidacy be reinstated and that he be allowed to contest the election.

A preliminary hearing on his petition will be held at the Supreme Court this coming Sunday.

The Election Officer’s Office had rejected Chaudhary’s candidacy, stating that despite receiving a presidential pardon after being sentenced to life imprisonment, records of the offence and imprisonment still remain.

Chaudhary had filed his candidacy for the House of Representatives election from Kailali-1.
