Composer and bhajan singer Ratna Man Shrestha passes away

Renowned composer and bhajan singer Ratnaman Shrestha, widely known as a contemporary of Narayan Gopal, has passed away at the age of 91.

His son Rajeshwarman Shrestha said that he died at 10 pm on Poush 3.

Born on Jestha 23, 1991 BS in Kathmandu, Shrestha was the son of Ustad Saila, Nepal’s first renowned singer. He was a well-established and respected figure in Nepali modern music, bhajans, and Nepal Bhasa songs. He was also a family friend of Narayan Gopal.

Shrestha formally began his journey in bhajan and music composition in 2017 BS. He recorded around 350 bhajans for Radio Nepal alone. In addition, he contributed music and vocals to several national songs and folk songs.

Having collaborated with noted artists ranging from Natikaji to Yogesh Vaidya and from Tara Devi to Kamala Shrestha, his demise has been described by musicians as an irreparable loss to the music fraternity. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
