In an example of a serious breach of child rights, a teacher in Damak of the Jhapa district in eastern Nepal has reportedly tortured a first-grade child after he failed to submit his homework.

Elina Neupane, a teacher of the Oxford Secondary School in Damak-3, beat the student black and blue after he did not complete two questions, according to the survivor’s family.

Damak 3 ward chair Nabin Baral says he has been informed of the incident and is looking into the case.

DSP Manoj Lama, the chief of the Damak Area Police Office, however, says the case is not reported to the police yet.
