Baitadi, August 25
Police in the Baitadi district of Sudurpaschim have arrested a woman accused of strangling her newborn.
The accused identified as Madhavi Karki (35) of Dilashaini rural municipality in the district strangled her baby born from an extramarital relationship shortly after its birth, according to a preliminary investigation, says Inspector Rajesh Shahi.
The incident took place at a maize field near her house.
The incident came to the notice of the police after the accused’s father-in-law reported it to the police.
Meanwhile, the District Court has extended the accused’s remand for further investigation.
Her husband had gone missing after he went to a foreign country for a job 10 years ago. She has a 13-year-old son.
