Kathmandu, November 7
Project Chief of the Kathmandu-Terai fast track Brigadier General Sharad Lal Shrestha has been relieved of his duties after the army and the Defence Ministry received complaints that there had been irregularities in the project.
A high ranking official at that army headquarters told Onlinekhabar that Shrestha was asked to step down over a month ago. However, the information was not made public.
“An investigation is going on, we had decided not to make it public. If he’s innocent he will continue has project chief,” said the official asking to remain anonymous.
According to him, the irregularity happed when former Major General Yogendra Khand was project chief. Khand retired on June 28 after which Shrestha was appointed the project chief. As Shrestha was the design in-charge when Khand was the project chief, he too has been pulled into the case.
Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa has asked Major General Sharad Giri to lead the investigation into the case. Shrestha was relieved of his duties as soon as Giri started investigating the case.
Colonel Bikash Pokharel is leading the project currently.
