Investigation committee finds fault in cars purchased by Parliament

An investigation committee has found that 11 cars bought by the Federal Parliament have different faults. The committee has found fault in all 11 cars which were bought for the chairpersons of different parliamentary committees, according to Ram Narayan Bidari, who led the study.

“Some have problems with gear while some have problems with its break,” said Bidari. The committee had hired engineers to look for faults in the cars while preparing its report. The report has been submitted to speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara.

Bidari said that all cars needed basic maintenance which could take up to 10 days. The committee has asked the Parliament Secretariat to send the cars back if they cannot be repaired in 10 days.

Bidari further added that the committee did not find financial irregularities while purchasing the cars.

PM Oli asks Cabinet to take action against people who killed the cows

PM KP Sharma Oli has asked ministers about the mysterious death of cows in Surkhet. Talking to his Cabinet members via video conference, PM Oli asked Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa to brief him about the incident. Communications Minister Gokul Baskota shared that PM Oli asked the Cabinet to find out who did the heinous crime and bring the culprit to justice.

Twenty-four cows were found dead in a forest in Surkhet on Friday.

Nine border points didn’t export anything since the beginning of this fiscal

Nepal has not been able to export items worth a single rupee from nine border point within the country since the beginning of this fiscal year. In the month of Shrawan (July-August), Nepal had exported goods worth Rs 8.8 billion however, none of the export was done from the nine border points within the country.

According to the Department of Customs, no items had been exported from border point in Bhadrapur, Jaleshwar, Janakpur, Maheshpur, Sarlahi, Sati, Siraha, Tatopani and Tadi.

‘Manpower’ companies continue to increase

Government’s aim to limit the number of foreign employment recruitment (manpower) companies has hit a brick wall as around 750 companies have submitted their registration applications at the concerned government office along with bank guarantee. The government had initially planned to limit the number of companies to 500.

Out of the 750 companies, 682 have also deposited cash at the Department for Foreign Employment, informed Bhisma Kumar Bhusal, the department’s director general. The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security a few months ago had added the provision of bank guarantee hoping to limit the number of recruitment companies to 500.

Currently, there are around 1,200 recruitment companies in Nepal.

Dissanayake to become coach of Bhairahawa Gladiators

Nepal’s former coach Pubudu Dissanayake has been appointed as the head coach of Bhairahawa Gladiators for the upcoming season of Everest Premier League (EPL) in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

The Gladiators owner Aditya Sanghai expressed his satisfaction upon hiring the former international wicketkeeper and batsman for one year.

Captain of Gladiators, Sharad Vesawkar, expressed his excitement to work with Dassanayake, who according to him had played a key role to transform Nepali cricket.

Dassanayake had abruptly resigned as the United States (US) head coach following a dispute with the board. He had taken the US from World Cricket League Division 4 in November 2016 to ODI status in April after the USA secured a top-four finish at WCL Division 2 in Namibia.

Journalist Hamal arrested

Journalist Om Hamal, who was released by the Supreme Court, has been arrested again, this time right outside the SC gate. Hamal was arrested by police on August 23 on the charge of being Netra Bikram Chand’s cadre.

The SC had ordered the police to release Hamal after the writ was filed by the Federation of Nepali Journalists asking the apex court to release him. However, the police, going against the decision, arrested Hamal from the gate of the Supreme Court.

Nepal Army establishing an airbase in Surkhet

Nepal Army is establishing an airbase in Surkhet. The army, wanting to grow its air service, is establishing the airbase to cater to the needs of people in western Nepal. Chief of Army Purna Chandra Thapa has officially inaugurated the base on Monday. The construction of a hanger has started in the airbase where the army is planning to park to helicopters along with one MI-17.
