Bhotekoshi flood sweeps away Bailey bridge in Rasuwa

Kathmandu, August 19

A Bailey-bridge near the dry port in Timure, Rasuwa has been wiped out by a flood triggered by incessant in the Bhote Koshi. after incessant rain in the area on Sunday.

Rasuwa’s Chief District Officer Arjun Bhandari said that the bridge was wiped out after the river took away some portion of the road with it. With this, the road connection between Rasuwagadi dry port and Rasuwagadi Hydropower has been severed. According to Bhandari, people are now using the Tatopani bridge further away from Timure to cross the river.

The flood has also endangered around three dozen vehicles used by both the customs office and hydropower. However, the CDO officer ensured that the vehicles were kept in a safe place.

“Water level in the river, which comes to Nepal from Tibet, rose by around five metres. We then had to make sure that all these vehicles were safe,” informed Bhandari. Bhandari’s office also asked the powerhouse to cut off electricity to prevent any accident. As the level of water rose, residents of Shyaprubesi, Gumchet, Mailung, Pahirobesi and Shantibazar were relocated to a safe place.

“Things are looking a bit stable now. The water level isn’t as bad as it was during the night. We moved the people because we wanted them safe. Things are normal now and people are back,” added Bhandari.
