Govt to give state honours to Ashwaghosh Mahasthabir

Ashwaghosh Mahasthabir

Kathmandu, April 7

The government on Sunday decided to perform the final rites of Buddhist monk Ashwaghosh Mahasthabir with state honours.

The monk, 93, had died of kidney and heath problems in Kathmandu on Friday.

A Cabinet meeting held this morning made the decision. The monk was a member of the National Assembly in early 1990s.

The CPN-UML, which has been evolved as the current ruling party, Nepal Communist Party, had nominated him for the upper House.

Days before his death, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli visited him at Kathmandu-based Grande Hospital and assured that the government would bear all costs of his treatment.
