Federal Parliament’s third session begins today

The third session of the Federal Parliament of Nepal commences on Wednesday afternoon.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari, who has convened the session at 4:00 pm.

The winter session of Parliament is also considered its ‘bill session’ as it will focus on discussions of on bills and their endorsement. This session is seen as important lawmakers will amend or replace laws inconsistent with the constitution. According to the constitution, laws inconsistent with the constitution need to be repealed by March 5, 2019.

Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara is likely to schedule two meetings on the first day of the session. During the first meeting, Speaker Mahara is to read out a letter received from the Office of the President. Thereafter, leaders from the political parties represented in the Federal Parliament are speak about their expectations from the winter session.

Thereafter, the Administrative Court Bill-2075 with comments received from the National Assembly will be tabled. Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Lalbabu Pandit is scheduled to present the Employees Adjustment Ordinance.

The second meeting of the day could endorse a condolence resolution on the demises of Chakra Prasad Bastola, Padma Ratna Tuladhar, and Moti Devi Chaudhary.

During the meeting of the National Assembly, the chair is to read out a message from the Office of President. The Employees Adjustment Ordinance is also likely to be tabled. The Upper House is likely to pass a resolution to condole the demises of former MPs Bastola, Tuladhar, and Chaudhary.
