
Kathmandu, April 23
After the success of Kathmandu-Delhi route, a bus service is starting from Dhaka to Kathmandu as two buses carrying 30 government officials from India, Nepal and Bangladesh have left Dhaka and will be arriving in Kathmandu on Thursday.
The buses left the Bangladeshi capital on Monday morning to mark the inauguration of trinational international bus service, Divisional Engineer for the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Binod Bhattarai, informs. There are six officials from Nepal.
The bus service was launched to have a connectivity between four South Asian countries, abbreviated as BBIN. Earlier, in 2014, India had proposed a Motor Vehicle Agreement which would help connect the four countries by road.
The bus is due to reach India-Bangladesh border on Monday evening and will cross Siliguri on Tuesday and finally will reach Kathmandu on Thursday.
As the buses arrive, Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Madhu Sudan Adhikari will welcome the guests from the two nations in Dhulikhel on Thursday.
Having a modern traveller in mind, the bus will have wifi and will meet all international standards.
With the commencement of this service, people from all four countries will have a cheaper means to travel as they will not have to fly, officials claim.
Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Keshav Sharma, says this is the first phase of testing and and the next decision about continuity of service will be made after six months of trial run.
Fares are yet to be finalised and all four nations will have equal buses on the routes as the buses will soon commute via Bhutan as well.
