Biratnagar, June 28
President of Forum-Nepal Upendra Yadav says the Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal has lost in the electoral battle in the planes.
The former Minister for Foreign Affairs, who cast his ballot in Biratnagar-14 on Wednesday morning, said he was happy that local people got the opportunity to vote for local leaders.
“Look at the half-a-kilometre line, do you see anyone boycotting the elections?” he said referring to rivals RJP-N’s decision to not contest the elections.
“They (RJP-N) lost the battle,” he added.
Upendra Yadav’s Forum-Nepal and the newly-formed RJP were allies during the 2015 blockade and subsequent protests demanding amendment to the constitution. The two parties were expected to fight a close contest in the Terai during the local elections. However, the RJP-N decided to boycott the elections as the government was not prepared to meet its key demand that the constitution be amended.
