BlackBerry’s latest offering device ‘Mercury’ will not be released in Nepal, at least for the time being.

The company’s latest phone, code-named Mercury, was previewed at CES 2017, Las Vegas on January 4. The device will run on Android OS and will feature BlackBerry’s iconic keyboard while also including a full-sized touch screen display. The rest of the specifications, however, has been kept under the wraps.

In December 2016, BlackBerry signed a licensing agreement with Chinese manufacturer TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited. Under the terms of the agreement, it was announced that TCL Communication would oversee the design, manufacturing, sales and after sales support for BlackBerry-branded smartphones while BlackBerry would license its security software and service suite, as well as related brand assets to TCL Communication.

It was also announced that TCL Communication would be the exclusive global manufacturer and distributor for all BlackBerry-branded smartphones with the exception of the of Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Indonesia.

However, BlackBerry has not signed any deal for distribution of BlackBerry devices in Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Indonesia. This means that the company is not going to launch the phones in the region soon, industry insiders say.
