4,000 farmers of Panauti benefitted from livestock insurance

As many as 4,000 farmers have reaped benefits from the livestock insurance programme operated in Panauti municipality. The programme that has been operated since last year has incorporated the farmers of all 12 wards in the municipality.

Through the programme, insurance of livestock such as cow, buffalo, sheep, pig, hen and swan being reared in the municipality area has been done. According to the Municipal Livestock Section, total 4,048 farmers from all wards are included in the insurance programme.

There are a total of 30,000 goats, 10,000 cows, 6,000 buffaloes, 500 pigs and around 100,000 birds in the municipality area, it is informed. The municipality has so far insured 5,281 cows, 2.231 buffaloes, 5,780 goats, 24,000 birds and 18 pigs.

As of now, payment for insurance claim of 200 livestock has been made as claimed under the programme. Earlier, the municipality had put in place a ‘buffalo protection-preservation’ campaign which doubled the number of buffaloes.
