At least 27 people have died, and four remain missing in 542 disaster incidents triggered by heavy rainfall across Nepal from September 24 to 27, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
Eight people were injured, and 1,082 families were affected during the period, while 114 livestock were killed or damaged.
Landslides accounted for 304 incidents, killing 20 people, leaving four missing and injuring seven. Floods caused 87 incidents and four deaths, while 151 incidents related to heavy rainfall claimed three lives and injured one person.
The rain completely destroyed 227 houses and partially damaged 142 others. Floods and landslides also damaged 31 bridges.
The NDRRMA said more than 100 mm of rainfall was recorded at 186 rain-monitoring stations during the four days. The highest rainfall was recorded at Dedhgaun in Nawalparasi East at 544.2 mm, followed by Panchase in Kaski at 500.2 mm and Atraulitar in Tanahun at 472 mm.
The authority said a low-pressure system developed over the Bay of Bengal caused heavy rainfall in various parts of the country.
Around 980,000 people received flood warning SMS messages, while nearly 2,000 people at risk were evacuated to safer locations. Helicopters were used to rescue people stranded by floods and landslides in remote districts, including Myagdi, Jajarkot and Baglung.
