An isolation centre for Covid-19 patients in Ratna Nagar, Chitwan, August 2020.

Chitwan, August 25

Four municipal governments in eastern Chitwan have prepared an isolation centre jointly to isolate people contracting Covid-19.

Ratna Nagar, Kalika, Khairahani, and Rapti municipalities converted a building of Nepal Agriculture Cooperative Central Association’s training and research centre in Tarauli, Ratna Nagar. So far, 62 beds have been kept there, but the capacity would soon expand to 100 beds, according to officials.

The municipalities have already mobilised health workers and security personnel at the centre whereas ambulances are also on standby. Khairahani Mayor Lal Mani Chaudhary says he asked ambulance operators and drivers in the city for support.

The municipalities have agreed to bear costs of operating the isolation centre equally.

Meanwhile, the officials have demanded that the Bagmati provincial government establish an intensive care unit and a test lab at Bakulahar Hospital in Ratna Nagar.
