3 software developers arrested for copying source code for sale

Kathmandu, March 15

Police have arrested three software developers on the charge of copying the source code of a software programme developed by another company to create a new programme and selling it.

The suspects have been identified as Bimal KC, Shyam Bahadur Chaudhary, and Shankar Gyawali, the operators of Preface Technology Pvt Ltd.

SSP Nabinda Aryal, the spokesperson of the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau, says they copied the code of the programme developed and owned by National Software and IT Solution.

They were arrested as per the Electronic Transactions Act, 2006 on Sunday. The Kathmandu District Court has remanded them in custody for six days.

Police say some other operators of the company are still on the run, and a manhunt has been launched.
