The Nepal Veterinary Association has launched a 24-hour hotline service to provide rescue and treatment support for livestock and poultry in flood-affected areas of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and other districts hit by floods on Wednesday.
According to the association’s General Secretary, Dr Shankar Neupane, affected livestock farmers can call the hotline at 1159 for technical advice on the health condition, treatment and rescue of their animals and poultry.
Based on information received through the hotline, the association will coordinate with veterinarians and rescue and treatment teams deployed in the field and mobilise teams promptly as needed.
The association also deployed a veterinary team comprising Dr Pravesh Sharma, Dr Nishant Sharma Gelal, Dr Sudip Regmi, Dr Dinesh Aryal and Dr Keshav Kharel to flood-affected areas.
The association said it is coordinating with government agencies, including the Department of Livestock Services, to monitor and prevent diseases in view of the risk of infectious diseases and outbreaks following the floods.
