22 Biplav Maoist cadres held from Chitwan anti-poll event

Chitwan, April 20

Police on Thursday arrested 22 persons from a mass meeting organised by Netra Bikram Chand Biplav-led CPN Maoist against the local level elections in Bharatpur of Chitwan district.

Police had intervened while the party leader Dharmendra Banstola was addressing the function. Following the police intervention and subsequent arrest, the event ended inconclusively.

Police had resorted to retaliation after the cadres pelted stones at the security personnel, according to the District Police Office Deepak Thapa.

The protesters had also burned tyres on the roads to obstruct traffic.

The Maoist outfit has been carrying out various activities across the nation against the scheduled polls.
