2 missing as SUV plunges into Karnali, 3 injured

Kailali, July 30

Two people have gone missing whereas three others sustained injuries when an SUV fell off the road in the Karnali river, in Kailali of far-western Nepal on Friday.

The vehicle, whose registration number is yet to be identified, plunged into the river while the driver was reversing along the Chisapani-Kolta road in Mohanyal rural municipality-7 of the district, say police.

The missing have been identified as Prakash Joshi and his wife Rupi Joshi, permanent residents of Adarsha rural municipality of the Doti district, informs DSP Prateek Bista, the spokesperson of the Kailali District Police Office. Prakash was behind the wheel when it fell off the unpaved road.

Meanwhile, the couple’s two daughters–Laxmi (13) and Sabitri (12)–and a son, Bhuwan (3)–have sustained injuries. The younger two are said to be critical.

A search operation has been launched to recover the missing couple.
