Nepali gangster Dawa Lama arrested in India over banknote forgery charge

Kathmandu, September 2

Police in New Delhi of India have arrested Nepali gangster Dawa Lama, who was on Nepal Police’ most wanted list, on the charge of banknote forgery.

Acting on a tipoff, a team deployed arrested him in the Indian capital when he was landing there from Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri of West Bengal.

Lama is the chairperson of Kavre district committee of youth wing of main opposition party Nepali Congress.

“He has been arrested on the basis of someone else’s report,” the youth wing’s acting central chairperson Uttam Chapagain says, “But, he has rejected the charge. If he has been arrested without any valid reason, he should be freed at the earliest.”

An official of Nepal Police, on the condition of anonymity, also confirmed the report. He added that police in Kolkata, West Bengal’s capital city, was carrying out further investigation into the case.
