Kathmandu, March 6
A group of Nepali Congress has proposed Manbahadur Bishwokarma as its candidate for President in the forth coming election next week.
This comes just as the UML convened a meeting of its standing committee later in the afternoon to decide who will be its Presidential candidate. Current President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and former Prime Minister Jhanlanath Khanal are the two leading candidates. UML have a majority in Parliament and it is it all but sure that whomever the UML picks will become the President.
The Nepali Congress could nominate Bishwokarma even as party leaders faced stiff opposition from members who said that the party should not name a candidate as the Nepali Congress is certain to lose.
