Gachhadar gets blessing for premiership from aged mother-in-law

Nepali Congress leader Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar receives blessings from his mother-in-law after winning elections, in Biratnagar, on Wednesday, December 13, 2017.

Biratnagar, December 13

Nepali Congress leader Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, who has already served as a deputy prime minister for as many as five times, has received a blessing from his mother-in-law to become the prime minister of country.

Gachhadar’s mother-in-law Pampha Devi Shrestha offered the blessing as he met the old woman after being declared the winner of House of Representatives elections in Sunsari-3. Before receiving the certificate of his election, Gachhadar had gone to his in-laws in Biratnagar for a family lunch.

Gachhadar had to battle hard to secure the parliamentary berth for the sixth time. He was behind CPN-UML’s Bhagawati Chaudhary in the preliminary phase of counting, but finally declared the winner by 321 votes.

Despite the blessing, Gachhadar’s party is unlikely to join the Cabinet this time as two communist parties have already announced to form a joint government.
