Food quality officials seal popular sweet shop in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, October 2

Food quality inspectors from the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control have sealed the production and sales outlets of Sangam Sweets, one of the popular cafes in Kathmandu’s New Banewshwor area.

Sangam’s shop in New Baneshwor and production facility in Milan Chowk were sealed after food inspectors, representatives from the District Administration Office and consumer rights activists inspected its facilities on Tuesday afternoon.

During the course of the inspection, Sangam was found to have used banned chemicals and expired ingredients in its sweets said inspector Iswar Subedi. The flour found in its warehouse was also not labeled, he added.

The shop has been sealed and the owner summoned to the department.
