A total of 35 industrial institutions and employers were penalized for using child labour in the last fiscal year, 2080/81 BS.

The Labour and Employment Office in Hetauda took action against these industries and employers after they were found to be engaging in the illegal practice of child labour. The Office conducted inspections across 95 industries in total.

According to the Office chief, Chhanda Narayan Shrestha, the offenders were fined over Rs 400,000. During the same period, 35 children were rescued from these industries.

Most of the violations were found in large industries, and other issues such as improper appointment letters, inadequate remuneration, and lack of social and physical security were also identified.

The industries were instructed to reform their management and work practices to ensure labour rights and to eliminate child labour.

The monitoring was carried out by government authorities across hotels, industries, and workshops.

The Office had also received 79 complaints related to unpaid wages over the past year. Of these, 60 were resolved through dialogue, while the remaining 19 are still in the process of settlement.

Additionally, the Office conducted an awareness program against child labour in the Makwanpur, Chitwan, and Sindhuli districts.
