33.5 kg gold disappearance: ‘Absconding’ DSP comes into contact

Kathmandu, April 26

DSP Sanjaya Raut, who was absconding after his involvement was suspected in the reported disappearance of 33.5 kg gold confiscated by police, has finally come into contact.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had summoned Raut for statements on Tuesday, but he was incommunicado since then. Later, on Wednesday evening, he came into contact with the probe panel.

A source at the panel says he was forced into come into contact after a circular was issued across the country to launch a search operation against him.

Earlier on Sunday, police had arrested former DIG Govinda Niraula immediately after his statements. Therefore, Raut chose to flee fearing the arrest, according to the source.

It has been learned that Raut has a good rapport with the alleged owner of the gold, Chudamani Upreti aka Gore.

Police have already arrested 22 persons in connection with the case whereas 21 are still absconding.
