A workshop focusing on the promotion of natural resource-based enterprises and the challenges and opportunities of climate finance was held in Bahrabise Municipality, Sindhupalchok.

According to a press statement released on January 18, the programme brought together local government representatives, entrepreneurs and stakeholders from the financial sector, which was organised by Forest Action Nepal. It added that at the workshop, Dr Meena Bohara presented a paper titled “The Role of Climate Finance in Natural Resource-Based Enterprises.” She highlighted ways to make entrepreneurship sustainable in the face of climate change risks and discussed potential investment opportunities in sectors reliant on local natural resources.

Forest Action Nepal field coordinator Kamal Bhandari said the organisation has been supporting entrepreneurs in the Bahrabise area for the past four years. Senior Vice President Kanchan Lama stressed the need to empower women entrepreneurs, stating that the organisation has provided skills, knowledge and technology support in Bahrabise and Tripurasundari for enterprises based on products such as stinging nettle, bamboo crafts, household items and nurseries. She said the support has helped local women become self-employed.

Ward No. 8 Chairperson Bimal Paudyal said the ward has provided land free of cost for entrepreneurs, assisted in nursery management and supported product marketing. He also pledged future budget allocation for entrepreneurship promotion.

Deputy Mayor Tamang said the municipality would prioritise market promotion and budget planning to support income generation through the use of local resources.

A similar one-day workshop was also held in Tripurasundari Rural Municipality, where stakeholders discussed sustainable resource use and climate-friendly investment.
