The gatekeeper of the Rankali Community Forest in Haldibari Rural Municipality was killed by a wild elephant.

The deceased has been identified as Dhan Bahadur Wan, 40.

He was trampled by the wild elephant around 9 am on Friday, said Khagendra Rijal, spokesperson at District Police Office, Jhapa.

Wan died on the spot, said Rijal. Police were at the incident site and had started legal procedures.

Last week, a wild elephant killed Padmalal Tamang, 72, who had been residing in a Bhutanese refugee camp at Beldangi, Damak.
