Janakpurdham, April 27
Two people died and more than 24 others were injured when a passenger bus lost control and overturned in Saptari.
The deceased have been identified as 75-year-old Ratna Bahadur Magarati of Saptakoshi Municipality-1, Saptari, and an unidentified woman.
According to DSP Madhav Prasad Kafle of the Area Police Office Kanchanpur, the accident occurred around noon on Sunday at Badga in Kanchanrup Municipality-10. The bus, bearing registration number Province 1–01–001 Kha 3420, was traveling from Udayapur to Biratnagar when it overturned.
DSP Kafle said both victims were severely crushed in the accident and died during treatment at Model Hospital in Biratnagar.
Around two dozen passengers sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious and are undergoing treatment at various hospitals, he added. There were 35 people onboard the bus at the time of the accident.
The bus driver, 47-year-old Amrit Darji of Mechinagar Municipality-7, Jhapa, has been taken into police custody, and further investigation into the accident is ongoing.
