Traffic halt for 13 days to pave Maldhunga-Beni road

Parbat, June 21

The Maldhunga-Beni road, part of the Kaligandaki Corridor project of national pride, has initiated its paving phase. This crucial road connects the North and South regions.

The Maldhunga-Beni-Jomsom-Korla Road Project Office has announced that only the Maldhunga-Farse 5 km section of the 13 km long Maldhunga-Beni road will be paved in the first phase. The remaining 7 km will be addressed subsequently.

To facilitate the paving process, transport vehicles have been banned for 13 days. According to an agreement reached in an all-party meeting held at the district administration office, all vehicles except emergency services, including ambulances, must use alternative routes from Saturday, June 22 to Thursday, July 4. Officials stated that if weather conditions remain favourable, the paving will be completed within the 13-day timeframe.

A joint venture, Apex-Khadka-Krishna, signed an agreement with the road department in March 2021 for the road’s upgrade, with a project cost of Rs 528.6 million. The project aims to widen the road from 6 meters to 9 meters, including a one-meter drain, and pave two lanes with an eight-meter width.
