Top party leaders set to attend Nepali Congress general convention opening

The opening ceremony of the Nepali Congress’s 15th General Convention is being held at Tundikhel in Kathmandu today. The Nepali Congress has invited senior leaders from various political parties to attend the ceremony. However, not all of the invited leaders will be attending.

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane is expected to attend the ceremony himself. Party spokesperson Jagadish Kharel told Onlinekhabar that Lamichhane is currently scheduled to attend.

From the CPN-UML, party Chair KP Sharma Oli will not attend. General Secretary Shankar Pokharel will represent the party instead. According to Oli’s secretariat, he will not attend as he is observing the mourning period following his father’s death. Pokharel will deliver the party’s greetings at the ceremony.

Similarly, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party, is expected to attend the event. Party spokesperson Prakash Jwala said Prachanda himself will address the opening ceremony. According to Prachanda’s chief personal secretary, Govinda Acharya, attending the Nepali Congress general convention is included in his schedule for today.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chair Rajendra Lingden will also attend the ceremony. Party spokesperson Mohan Shrestha said Lingden, who is currently in his home district of Jhapa, will travel to Kathmandu today to attend the event.

Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal Chair Upendra Yadav will not attend. According to his secretariat, Yadav has asked Co-chair Sharat Singh Bhandari to represent the party at the opening ceremony.
