Committee decides to seek documents from Foreign Ministry and Lalitpur Police on proposed ambassador, Sunar

Kathmandu, October 12

The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has decided to seek documents on two issues raised in complaints concerning Giri Bahadur Sunar, the proposed ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

The committee made the decision, saying it needs to study further documents as it examines the facts of the complaints filed against Sunar.

One complaint alleged that Germany sent Sunar back to Nepal when he travelled there, because questions had been raised about his moral character. The committee has decided to ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for details on what the facts are regarding that complaint.

It has also asked the Lalitpur Police Office to send the necessary documents on a complaint about an extramarital relationship. The complaint alleged that Sunar had an extramarital relationship and that the matter was settled by a reconciliation agreement at Lalitpur Police. Before deciding what to do about that complaint, the committee has decided to obtain the reconciliation papers from the police.

The committee is beginning the hearings today after discussing the complainants against the proposed ambassadors.
