Nepali documentary film The Everest Dream has won the Special Jury Short Documentary Award at the 12th International Film Festival of Shimla in India.
Directed and produced by filmmaker and media professional Ganesh Pandey, the film won the award after competing with international documentaries from around the world.
At the award ceremony in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta and festival director Pushpraj Thakur presented the award to Pandey. The festival was held from September 25 to 27 at the historic Gaiety Heritage Complex in Shimla, featuring films from 33 countries.
The Everest Dream tells the story of a British citizen who faces various challenges in life after suffering a serious brain injury and embarks on an adventurous journey to Everest Base Camp. The documentary captures the team’s challenging training in Scotland and their journey to the Himalayas in Nepal.
The film focuses on the journey of a seven-member team led by James Lamb, including five brain injury survivors, to Everest Base Camp. It conveys an inspirational message that people can achieve their dreams despite physical and mental challenges.
According to director Pandey, the film’s central message is that “even after a serious injury or hardship in life, people can dream new dreams and achieve them.”
The Everest Dream had previously won the Best Documentary Film Award at the KAB International Film Festival in Georgia, USA. With the international award in Shimla, the Nepali documentary has further strengthened its presence at international film festivals.
