Dhangadhi, May 11

As many Covid-19 patients are succumbing to the lack of sufficient oxygen in the Sudurpaschim province, the only oxygen plant in the district has halted its operation on Monday night after experiencing a technical problem.

The Malika Oxygen Gas Industry located in Dhangadhi of Kailali was producing 150 to 180 cylinders of medical oxygen every day, but it has halted the operation since last night, according to Shiva Raj Joshi, the Kailali District Administration Office.

“Now, an additional problem has appeared. We have started efforts to bring human resources from India for the repair.”

For now, efforts are underway to bring in some cylinders of medical oxygen from Nepalgunj of the neighbouring Lumbini province, according to him.

The Malika plant was providing 30 to 40 cylinders of oxygen every day to the Seti Provincial Hospital, the biggest hospital in the province. The hospital’s information officer Dilip Kumar Shrestha says the hospital has been managing 100 cylinders every day, by adding 60 cylinders produced on its own.

The hospital requires 150 cylinders of oxygen every day, and the rest is brought from Nepalgunj, according to him.
