Sher Bahadur KC from democratic panel elected Nepal Bar Association president, progressive team suffers a rout

Kathmandu, April 8

Sher Bahadur KC has won the election for the position of Nepal Bar Association president. KC contested the race as the candidate from the ‘democratic’ panel, defeating Bijaya Kanta Mainali from the ‘progressive’ panel. Khamma Bahadur Khati from the democratic panel won against Dinmani Pokharel of the progressive panel in the race for the position of NBA general secretary.  In all, the democratic panel bagged 20 seats in the Bar polls for different positions.

The democratic panel edge out the progressive panel and the joint panel representing lawyers close to Madheshi parties.

However, the progressive panel won NBA vice-president positions for its Mid-Western and Far-Western chapters, woman vice-president’s position and two NBA member seats.

Seventy-one candidates were in the race for a 25-member new working  committee. Altogether 7,845 votes were cast in the polls.
