Safety orientation conducted for Asian Games participants

A safety orientation programme has been organised for participants heading to the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, set to take place in Japan this coming September-October.

The Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) says the National Olympic Academy (NOA), in coordination with the NOC, organised the safety orientation programme on Tuesday at the NOC building for athletes and officials preparing for the Asian Games.

Olympic Academy Chairman Tej Bahadur Gurung stressed the importance of creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone involved in sports.

At the orientation, Academy Director Sujan Lal Shrestha, along with members Pratibha Joshi and Dr Pramila Thapa, gave presentations on related topics. They discussed the principles of safety in sports, prevention of harassment and abuse, protection of athletes’ rights and welfare, and the collective responsibility of athletes, coaches, managers, and officials in promoting a safe sporting environment.

At the event, it was also announced that NOC Joint Secretary General Ramji Bahadur Shrestha has been appointed as Nepal’s Safety Officer for the upcoming Asian Games.

The first session of the programme was attended by coaches, managers, and athletes from swimming, badminton, archery, kabaddi, and table tennis. The second session included representatives from judo, taekwondo, table tennis, volleyball, boxing, and squash. According to the NOC, similar sessions will be held for the remaining sports as well.

The NOC stated that the purpose of this orientation programme is to thoroughly familiarise every member of Nepal’s team with safety policies and practices before departing for the Asian Games.
