Province 1: CM Rai’s supporters bar opponents from tabling no-confidence motion

Biratnagar, February 7

The Dahal-Nepal faction of the Nepal Communist Party could not table a no-confidence motion against Province 1 Chief Minister Sher Dhan Rai in the Provincial Assembly meeting on Sunday.

The faction has already registered the motion at the assembly secretariat on December 27, 2020, after the NCP split due to the conflict over the dissolution of the House of Representatives.

Earlier, the two NCP factions had differences over the date of tabling the motion. The faction supporting Rai had demanded that the assembly meeting called for today be postponed by pasting a notice. However, the other faction did not agree.

In the end, they had agreed to convene the meeting today and table the motion. But still, they blocked the process even though the meeting had started hours later than the schedule.

They had objected to Speaker Pradeep Kumar Bhandari’s decision to allow 16 lawmakers belonging to the other faction join the meeting claiming the party already suspended them.

Following that, Bhandari adjourned the meeting for February 21.
