The price of electricity being imported from India has come down slightly after a meeting of the bilateral Power Exchange Committee.
Earlier, the price had been increasing every year at the rate of 5.5 per cent since 2011 as mentioned in an agreement between the two countries. They had also agreed to hold a meeting of the Exchange Committee every year.
Though the meeting did not take place after that, the price continued to increase. Accordingly, a unit of power would cost upto Rs 11.
Recently, the meeting was held in New Delhi after initiatives of NEA Managing Director Kulman Ghising.
Besides other decisions, the meeting also scrapped the provision of automatic 5.5 per cent annual increase in the price. The meeting decided that a unit of electricity from 50 megawatt transmitted through 132 KV transmitter now costs INR 5.5. Likewise, a unit transmitted through 33 KV and 11 KV transmitters will cost INR 6 and 6.45 respectively.
The two sides have also agreed to hold next meeting in 2018 March to fix the new rates.
