Palesha Goverdhan makes history as first Nepali para-athlete to qualify for Paralympics

Para taekwondo athlete Palesha Goverdhan has been selected for the Paris Paralympics to be held in France in August 2024.

In the Asian selection of the Paralympics held in China, Goverdhan secured her spot in the Para Olympics by clinching gold in the women’s 57 kg weight category under K44 classification.

Before that, Palesha defeated Uzbekistan’s Karima Melikuzieva 18-2 in the semi-finals and made it to the finals.

With this, Palesha Goverdhan made history as the first Nepalese para-athlete to qualify for the Paralympics after successfully passing the selection stage. Before her achievement, Taekwondo athletes Sangina Vaidya and Deepak Bista had also represented Nepal in the Olympics after successfully clearing the qualifying stage.

She also competed in the Tokyo Paralympics 2020, where she made history by winning two bouts, showcasing her exceptional talent on the world stage.

Moreover, in the 4th Asian Para Games held in Hangzhou, China, she secured a historic bronze medal for Nepal.
