The third-gen of the OnePlus Ace series, the OnePlus Ace 3 has been officially released. The smartphone is the successor of last year’s OnePlus Ace 2. The OnePlus Ace is a midrange series from OnePlus. It primarily uses the last-gen flagship chipset providing a balance of performance and affordability in the midrange price segment.

The Ace 3 has a similar design to its predecessor with upgrades in the chipset, display and battery. The OnePlus Ace series is popular and with a few improvements, it can be a tough competitor in the price segment.

Design and Display

The OnePlus Ace 3 has the same universal flagship design OnePlus has been using for the past year. It shares a similar design to its predecessor the OnePlus Ace 2 with few changes which are similar to the flagship OnePlus 12. On the back, it has a glossy glass back in the Gold and Blue colour. The frame on the other hand is made up of aluminium alloy metal.

The camera module has a triple camera setup and a metal gloss finish with a striped design. Even though there are four camera housings, the one in the bottom right is an ambient light sensor. The flash has been moved from that position to outside the camera bump.

On the front, the OnePlus Ace 3 has a centred hole-punch cutout which houses the selfie camera. The bezels are minimal and give a premium look. The display has Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for extra drop and scratch protection.

It has a 6.78-inch LTOP AMOLED flexible curved panel. It has a resolution of 2,780×1,264 which delivers a pixel density of 450 PPI and a screen-to-body ratio of 94.2 per cent. It supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz for smoother visuals. The brightness levels reach a global excitation maximum of 1,600nit and a local peak maximum of 4,500nit for clear visibility in various lighting conditions.

With 1.07 billion colours and full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut across different modes, the display presents rich, vibrant colours. It also supports Always-On Display (AOD) and eye protection modes. The display offers a wide range of features such as eye protection mode, screen colour mode, automatic brightness adjustment, manual brightness adjustment, screen colour temperature adjustment, ultra-clear picture quality enhancement, video colour enhancement, HDR video highlight mode, dark mode, screen refresh rate switching and Dolby Vision.

Performance and Storage

The OnePlus Ace 3 is powered by the last generation’s flagship chipset the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, built on a 4nm architecture. Its octa-core CPU configuration has a single 3.2 GHz Cortex-X3 core, two 2.8 GHz Cortex-A715 cores, two 2.8 GHz Cortex-A710 cores, and three 2.0 GHz Cortex-A510 cores for processing and energy efficiency. It is accompanied by the Adreno 740 GPU for smooth graphics rendering. It runs on ColorOS 14 based on Android 14.

The OnePlus Ace 3 has a 10,000-grade VC, dual-cycle heat dissipation, and aerospace-grade materials for maximum heat dissipation for stable performance. Its 9,140mm² VC cooling area, 400 per cent larger than traditional systems, enhances thermal conductivity. Superconducting thermal graphite boosts heat dissipation by 41 per cent, and improves thermal conductive gel by 30 per cent helping in efficient heat management in a compact design.

The OnePlus Ace 3 has two RAM options of 12GB and 16GB. The 12GB RAM is paired with a 256GB storage option while the 16GB RAM option is paired with 512GB and 1TB storage options.

Camera

The OnePlus Ace 3 has a triple rear camera setup which includes a main camera 50MP equipped with a 6P lens and an f/1.8 aperture. It also supports Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Auto Focus (AF), for stability and sharpness. It also has an equivalent focal length of 24mm and an effective focal length of 5.59mm for depth and clarity.

Complementing the main camera, the OnePlus Ace 3 features an ultra-wide-angle camera of 8MP with a 5P lens and an f/2.2 aperture for a wider perspective with an equivalent focal length of 16mm and an effective focal length of 1.68mm. It also has a macro camera 2MP with f/2.4 aperture, a 3P lens, and an equivalent focal length of 22mm with an effective focal length of 1.77mm. The rear camera allows for up to 20x digital zoom along with features like Three-Axis OIS, PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus), and a rear-mounted LED single-color temperature flash.

The rear camera of the OnePlus Ace 3 captures videos in various resolutions and frame rates, such as 4K at 60fps and 30fps, 1080P and 720P at 60fps and 30fps. It supports both Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) across multiple resolutions, including 720P, 1080P, and 4K at 60fps. For slow-motion shots, it offers 1080P at 240fps and 720P at 240fps or 480fps. It provides creative options such as Movie Mode at 3840×1644 resolution at 30fps, time-lapse photography at 4K and 1080P at 30fps, and multi-view video support at 720P and 30fps.

The rear camera has multiple features such as photo, video, night scene mode, professional mode, panorama mode, time-lapse photography mode, slow motion, super text, tilt-shift mode, cute photo, movie mode, macro mode, long exposure, AI ID photo and multi-view video mode.

The front camera of the OnePlus Ace 3 has a 16MP shooter with an aperture of f/2.4. It can record 1080p and 720p videos at 30fps. The selfie camera has features such as photo, video, portrait, night scene, panorama, time-lapse photography, multi-scene video, cute photo and AI ID photo.

Battery and Others

The OnePlus Ace 3 has a massive 5,500 mAh battery which can give enough screen time for a day without. To charge it, it supports 100W wired charging for fast charging of 0-100 per cent in about 28 minutes. Connectivity-wise, it supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6/7 on dual bands for internet access and Bluetooth 5.3 for wireless connections with other devices.

In terms of network capabilities, it’s equipped for both LTE and 5G networks and also features dual SIM slots for added convenience. Audio quality is also good with stereo dual speakers, dual microphone setup, and support for Dolby Atmos for an immersive sound experience. It is also equipped with a range of sensors, including geomagnetic induction, light induction, under-screen proximity sensor, under-screen light sensor, under-screen colour temperature, acceleration sensor, gravity sensor, gyroscope, support step counting function, X-axis linear motor, under-display fingerprint sensor and infrared remote control.

The OnePlus Ace 3 is available in three colour options; Sand Gold, Star Black and Moon Sea Blue.

The expected price of the OnePlus Ace 3 is Rs 56,000 for the 12/256GB option, Rs 64,000 for the 16/512GB option and Rs 72,000 for the 16GB/1TB option.
