Kathmandu, September 25

The country’s fuel distribution monopoly, Nepal Oil Corporation, says an incident early this week, in which a tanker carrying petrol fell into Trishuli before catching fire, is suspicious.

The authority has asked Nepal Police to investigate it.

NOC Thankot Depot Chief Pradeep Kumar Yadav says the incident could be premeditated, hence, the office wrote to Gajuri Area Police Office in Dhading for a probe.

“The driver’s role was suspicious since the past. Of late, we expedited action against adulteration, hence, he might have planned the ‘accident’,” says Yadav.

Earlier, the depot had received a tip-off that the tanker was carrying adulterated fuel. The claim is yet to be verified.

Whereas driver Sudeep Bohora and his assistant Manish Nagarkoti were unhurt in the incident, the corporation had lost petrol worth Rs 2.1 million.

Police have nabbed the duo for further investigation.
