Nepal’s NEPSE falls for second straight day as turnover rises to Rs 4.1 billion

Nepal’s stock market fell for a second consecutive trading session on Tuesday, with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index declining 5.30 points to close at 2,594 points.

The market had dropped 19.13 points on Monday.

Despite the decline in the index, daily turnover increased. Shares worth Rs 4.10 billion were traded on Tuesday, up from Rs 3.23 billion in the previous session.

Of the companies traded, 78 saw their share prices rise, while 187 declined. The prices of 12 companies remained unchanged.

Only the development bank and non-life insurance sectors recorded gains on Tuesday. The development bank index rose 0.08%, while the non-life insurance index increased 0.36%.

All other sectoral indices declined. The banking sector fell 0.03%, finance 0.91%, hotels and tourism 0.71%, hydropower 0.42%, investment 0.08%, life insurance 0.09%, manufacturing and processing 0.29%, microfinance 0.27%, others 0.18%, and trading 0.57%.

As usual, hydropower companies accounted for the largest share of trading activity. The sector contributed Rs 2.49 billion, or 60.66% of the total turnover.

Commercial banks recorded transactions worth Rs 320 million, while companies in the manufacturing and processing sector recorded turnover of Rs 380 million.
