Kathmandu, November 27

Leaders of the main opposition Nepali Congress did not raise any concern about the border dispute between the two countries as they met visiting Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla on Thursday.

Shringla had gone to the main opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba’s private residence in Budhanilakantha of Kathmandu for a courtesy meeting yesterday evening. The party’s senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel, another influential leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula, and former ambassador Dinesh Bhattarai accompanied Deuba during the meeting.

The conversation did not last longer than half an hour as it was just limited to formality, according to a leader who attended the meeting. Bhattarai, however, says they said outstanding issues should be settled through bilateral discussions.

On the occasion, Deuba said his party had prioritised the country’s relations with the neighbours.
