Nepali Congress

Kathmandu, August 18

The Nepali Congress has formed various committees to manage its upcoming 15th General Convention and suspended a provision of its party statute to facilitate the convention process.

A meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee decided to form the committees for the convention, which has already been scheduled.

According to party spokesperson Devraj Chalise, the meeting formed a 15th General Convention Management Committee under the coordination of party President Gagan Kumar Thapa.

The management committee will include other members as required.

The meeting also decided that the main committee will form various subcommittees to oversee arrangements including accommodation, food, stage management, guest reception and healthcare for the convention.

The party said the names of the coordinators and members of the respective subcommittees will be published later.

Nepali Congress suspends statute provision

The Nepali Congress has also suspended Article 35(2)(d) of its party statute.

The provision was suspended through the Central Working Committee meeting held from August 9 to August 17.

The party said the provision was suspended as it was deemed necessary to ensure that the 15th General Convention could be completed within the scheduled timeframe under the special circumstances.

“Since it is deemed necessary to complete the 15th General Convention within the scheduled timeframe under special circumstances, it has been decided to make the necessary suspension regarding Article 35(2)(d) in accordance with the statute,” the meeting’s decision stated.

Article 35(2)(d) requires all local-level conventions to be held and local-level committees formed at least one year before the year in which the Central General Convention and provincial conventions are held.

The provision also states that representatives elected through local-level conventions for provincial conventions and the Central General Convention must be elected three months before the respective provincial and central conventions.

The party has suspended these provisions to facilitate the timely completion of its 15th General Convention.
