Nepali Congress begins the 14th general convention with all parties’ greetings

Kathmandu, December 10

The 14th general convention of the ruling Nepali Congress party has begun in Bhrikutimandap of Kathmandu on Friday with much fanfare.

The party’s president, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, inaugurated the event today in presence of thousands of leaders and cadres of the party. In addition, top leaders of the major political parties were also present on the occasion with the ruling party best wishes for the convention and the election of the new central committee.

Namely, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, CPN-Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal Chairman Mahantha Thakur, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Rajendra Lingden, Rastriya Janamorcha Vice-chairperson Durga Paudel, and CPN-ML General Secretary CP Mainalist addressed the event.

The general convention is mandated to elect the new central committee of the party for the next four years. Incumbent Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel, Bimalendra Nidhi, Shekhar Koirala and Prakash Man Singh are preparing to file their candidacies for the party presidency.

The Nepali Congress election committee says the nominations will be filed Saturday.

The convention will end on Monday after concluding the election procedures.
