Nepal tourist arrivals rise 12.1 per cent in September; Chinese visitors double

Tourist arrivals to Nepal have improved despite the country facing natural disasters continuously over the past two months.

According to the Nepal Tourism Board, 88,248 tourists visited Nepal in September, a 12.1 per cent increase compared with the same month last year.

Arrivals from South Asian countries increased by 23.9 per cent, rising from 24,285 in September 2025 to 30,085 this year. Arrivals from other Asian countries increased by 58 per cent, from 12,590 to 19,888.

However, arrivals from the ASEAN region fell by 25.9 per cent to 5,422. European arrivals declined by 8.7 per cent, from 16,597 last year to 15,148 this year. Arrivals from the Americas also fell, with 10,107 visitors recorded this September compared with 11,523 last year.

Among SAARC countries, arrivals from Bangladesh increased by 31.5 per cent to 3,964, while Bhutanese arrivals rose to 1,111 from 833. India recorded 17,425 arrivals, up from 15,556, while arrivals from Sri Lanka increased to 7,108 from 4,616.

Chinese arrivals more than doubled, rising 114.1 per cent from 5,237 last September to 11,212 this year. Japanese arrivals increased 45.4 per cent to 2,066.

British arrivals fell 25.2 per cent to 3,725 from 4,981, while US arrivals declined to 8,299 from 9,679. Arrivals from the Middle East increased by 11.9 per cent.
