Kathmandu, September 17
Nepal collected Rs 184.58 billion in revenue during the first two months of the current fiscal year despite the devastating September 25 floods and disruptions along the northern border points.
According to the Ministry of Finance, revenue collection in the first two months of fiscal year 2026/27 has increased compared with the same period last fiscal year.
Nepal had collected Rs 158.71 billion in revenue by the end of Bhadra in fiscal year 2025/26.
Revenue collection was particularly higher in Bhadra this year. The government collected Rs 91.38 billion during the month, compared with Rs 73.61 billion in Bhadra last year.
Revenue collection last year was affected in the final week of Bhadra by the Gen Z-led protests.
Despite the year-on-year increase, revenue collection remains below the government’s target.
The government had set a target of Rs 214.81 billion for the first two months of the current fiscal year. By the end of Bhadra, it had achieved 85.93 percent of the target.
For Bhadra alone, the revenue target was Rs 96.88 billion. Collection stood at Rs 91.38 billion, or 94.33 percent of the monthly target.
The government collected Rs 5.58 billion in revenue on Bhadra 31 alone.
In the same period last fiscal year, the government had set a target of around Rs 218 billion but collected only Rs 158 billion.
The government has set a total revenue collection target of Rs 1.58 trillion for the current fiscal year.
However, the floods in Rasuwa and along the Bhotekoshi corridor are expected to affect revenue collection in the coming months, particularly due to disruptions at the northern border points.
