Nepal Rastra Bank is set to put new Rs 1,000 banknotes into circulation from Friday.
According to the Currency Management Department of Nepal Rastra Bank, the new notes will be brought into circulation from Friday.
The new Rs 1,000 notes will retain the same dimensions as the existing notes but will feature a different colour scheme. The notes will be light green with a purple border, according to the central bank.
The front of the note features an image of Mount Everest on the left and a rhododendron watermark on the right. A watermark bearing the numeral “1000” is placed below it.
The central section of the note features images of two rare twin elephants, Ram and Laxman, born to an elephant named Devkali at the government-owned elephant breeding centre in Chitwan.
The new Rs 1,000 notes belong to the 2025 series and carry serial numbers ranging from 92000001 to 50999999.
The central bank said only notes bearing serial numbers from 68000001 to 91440000 from the previous 2019 series, which was introduced into circulation on July 22, 2020, had been issued.
The new notes will circulate alongside existing Rs 1,000 notes.
